It has been a good long time since I've blogged about this trip. I spent most of the end of last year (almost 3 straight months) traveling for work. It took me all over the country and left me absolutely no time to think about this upcoming adventure!!

But, it's the new year and it's getting down to crunch time for my leaving. It's been incredibly fun planning for this trip and have learned a few things along the way.
  1. There's a massive shortage on the Yellow Fever vaccination. I was told by one doctor that I wasn't going to be able to find a shot in the entire DC metro area! He was wrong, but it was still a little disconcerting. The manufacturer has changed the distribution of the vaccine, so now, it is not only in short supply, but it's harder to get it administered...Luckily, this city is big enough to have several places that get frequented by people needing to get a the vaccine - you have to go in groups of 5!
  2. I've applied for a visa before, but something about applying for this one seemed really overwhelming. Again, benefit of living in DC is that I just went straight to the Tanzanian Embassy and dropped off my passport. That was a little disconcerting since it is the key to my US identity!
  3. Plane ticket prices for Tanzania are decreasing. They are now about $150 cheaper than when I bought mine -- which was only about a week ago! Eh, c'est la vie. I couldn't wait and make it even more last minute than it already was!
I'm now thinking about packing and beginning my journey there! Stay tuned!
